Our condolences
go out to Nick and his family on the sudden passing of his father, Roger
Bates, last Friday. Nick, our prayers are with you during this
difficult time.
Donations in memory of his father can be made to the British

A message from Catherine:
After
a few weeks of soul searching, I've decided to take a break from
the Temple for a bit. In the past year I've increasingly become
busier not only with my day job, but with several other projects,
and there just isn't enough hours in the day to do everything
I want/need to do. I don't know how long my "break"
will last - maybe a month, maybe 2 months, maybe longer - but
fear not, the site is not shutting down. You will still
be able to view everything on the Temple as it is today and interact
with other Nickolites on Dear
Saint Nick, but for now there won't be any news updates,
or updates to other pages of the site. I'm not completely disappearing
from view - you can still contact me by email (priestesses @ templeofsaintnick.com),
or you might catch me on DDM
or other DD-dedicated message boards. When I come back (and I
will), I'll be relaxed and refreshed and (I hope) bringing some
exciting, long-overdue changes to the Temple. :)
A huge thank you to all Nickolites everywhere for your
contributions to the Temple, and for making it one of the most
popular sites in the Duran Duran universe. |

Rhodes On Meeting Meredith Ostrom:
"I had just had dinner off Regent Street with some music producers
and was running late. The band (Duran Duran) were due to meet
Billy Corgan (The Smashing Pumpkins) and we were worried because
Billy was on his own and we couldn't find a cab. After about 20
minutes, we spotted a cab with its light on at a red light. We
hailed it and the cabbie flashed his lights.
The traffic lights changed and the cab was about 20 metres from
us, when a blonde girl stepped out of a doorway and stuck out
her hand. The cab stopped and she started to get in. My friends
just exploded-- they started running towards the cab, shrieking
at her that it was our cab. I followed slowly, embarrassed, and
when I got to the cab, they were trying to persuade the girl to
drop us on the way. I remember thinking, 'What have we captured
here...?' Meredith reminded me of Daryl Hannah in Splash--all
sparkly.
By this stage, Meredith and my friends were having a tiff. She
was saying, 'I'm not going to tell you where I'm going.' Eventually,
I said, 'Well, we're going to Mario Testino's book launch at the
Sanderson.' Meredith burst out laughing and said, 'That's where
I'm going, get in.' That was July 2001 and we have been together
ever since."

Where was our favorite
Saint during the holidays? In St.
Barth's, of course.
Nick dissed Britt
Ekland?
| "...She
also became notorious in the early 1980's for chasing young rock
stars. Most notably, in 1984, Britt pushed herself in front of
dozens of photographers and eager fans to have her picture taken
next to Duran Duran keyboardist, Nick Rhodes, during a
fashion show in Los Angeles. Rhodes was there with his then girlfriend,
and later former wife, Julie Ann Friedman, who was one of the
featured models at the event. Ekland has said during some interviews
that she was at one point an "avid" fan of the makeup sporting
member of Duran Duran. Rhodes loudly refused to allow Ekland to
appear in the photo with him and with that left in a private elevator." |
