Heres the story I sent into VH1 about Duran and
Nick was my favorite:
I was a big fan when I was a teenager. My mom knew
how much I loved them and she enrolled me in the
fan club in England and bought me Rio its first
day on the shelves.
She went into the hospital in December 1983 and
Duran was coming in concert February 25th 1984.
She had my aunt get me and Jansen tickets. She had
surgery that month but her brain tumor couldn't
be removed. She became very ill in February and
slipped into a coma. I went to Duran on Feb 25th
but before my friend Jansen and Iwent, me, her,
and her mom went to to the hospital to see my mom.
I had no idea how sick she was - my family wanted
to protect me. I kissed her goodbye at 3:40 and
she died at 3:50. She made my dad and grandma promise
I went to Duran no matter what so no one called
me back.
No one told me she died and when I got to Jansen's
after the concert my dad called and told them but
he didn't want me to know until morning so it wouldnt
ruin my big day - I was told the next morning and
have lived with the guilt ever since.
I see Duran2 every time them come - my mom's favorite
song was Save a Prayer and she loved Simon - I love
Nick. I used to dress like him and dye my hair when
he did. I even put the fake mole on my face! My
grandma and I listen to them a lot still and my
grandma wrote Simon a letter years ago (telling
him this story and no reply) and she had a poster
of him in her closet! She loves Simon too! We remember
them because she liked them and she knew i loved
them a lot.
Duran and Nick have been a big part of our life
for 18 years.
