The night I met Nick was truly one of the
greatest hightlights of my life so far! I attended the Dallas, TX show with some friends
one of whom I have seen seven Duran shows with! I have been a devoted Nick fan for fifteen
years and have never even come close to meeting the Saint until August 22, 1999.
I managed to find the VIP area of the venue and waited after the show for band to come
out. It seemed forever but then finally I saw Warren and then Nick come out from the back
stage area. They came over to sign a few autographs and by the time I made it
through the crowd I was standing right next to Nick! It was amazing to stand next to
someone I have idolized for soooo long! Anyway, he managed to sign the CD cover I brought
(Greatest) with me and then he said "I'm sorry I have to go". Well, my friends
pulled me into the car and we followed the bands' bus (like groupies) but we were having
fun!
When they got to the hotel we watched them go inside and then we walked in. I couldn't
believe there was practically no one there. Then I saw Nick standing near the entrance to
the bar. I just had to go over and ask for his autograph again since he barely got his
first name scrawled on my CD since he was practically dragged away by security! He was
very polite but also extremely tired so I didn't really get to talk to him but he did
manage to pose for a picture with me and my friend. I told him "great show", he
said "thanks" and then we left. I still look at the picture and can't believe it
really happened! Maybe I will be lucky enough to meet him again next tour!
