I encountered Nick in Tunica, Mississippi .... ... at the Horseshoe Casino on August 19. It was a fun show. My friend, her 67-year-old mother (who is NUTS about Duran Duran), and I managed to get second row, center seats. Sporting a psychedelic T-shirt and sneakers, Nick was unusually casual for the concert, but of course, he looked as elegant as always.   After the show, we found the door from which the band was leaving. Simon walked right by the fans as if we didn't exist, but Nick stopped. I shook his hand and told him I enjoyed the show. I asked him to sign a poster taken of the group in 1981. "Oh, this is an old one!" he smiled as he signed it. I was struck by how he looked exactly like he does in his photos. Sometimes, when you meet celebrities in person, you're caught off guard by how they look - either they're more attractive or less attractive in person. But, Nick looked liked he'd just stepped out of one their videos. And those green eyes! Even I was smitten, and I'm a diehard John Taylor fan of 16 years! We found the cafe in the casino where the guys were having dinner. My friend was chasing Simon trying to get his autograph. Simon finally acquiesed when my friend had Warren "threaten" Simon with an ass-kicking if Simon wouldn't sign autographs!   After the guys were done eating, Nick came out and immediately began signing autographs again.My friend walked up to Nick and asked him to sign a ticket stub for her mom. "Your mom," Nick scoffed playfully. "Yeah, right." "No, really!" my friend said. "She's right over there! She's 67 years old, and she loves Duran Duran!" From the expression on Nick's face, I could tell that he still didn't believe her. Nick walked by me and smiled. He held out his hand again, I took it (and I squeezed a little harder this time!), and thanked him. My friend's mom called out "Thanks, Nick!" My friend said, "Nick! This is my mom!" Nick's eyes got huge in surprise and that had everybody laughing. Nick leaned in to my friend's mom and shook her hand! Nick was exactly like I always thought he would be: kind, patient, sweet, and gracious. He signed every piece of paper thrust at him and returned all hugs and squeezes. What a guy!
