I've loved Duran Duran
since 1981 and still going strong. I'm originally
from South Carolina, (in the U.S.) and now I live
up North in New Jersey. I've been to three Duran
Duran concerts and I have a true story to tell about
all three concerts. But the last concert I went
to, was by far, the best experience yet.
It was the Duran Duran in Atlantic City, Nov. 3,
2006---House of Blues. WOW---what a concert! I love
it so much. The whole night was so magical for me.
Somehow, God only knows, I was blessed enough to
get into the after party. While I was there, I danced
the night away while at the same time, meeting great
new friends. Eventually I made my way back to where
the back dining room was were Nick Rhodes was still
eating. My friend (that I came with that night)and
I were standing at the doorway of the dining room.
Nick was all of about 12 feet away from me and still
sitting at the table. He was chatting with his friends
and looked like he was having a great time. Anyway,
my friend and I were chatting and every time I got
finished saying something, everyone at the table,
INCLUDING NICK, would start to laugh. This went
on for awhile, until finally two people from the
table got up and headed straight for me. They came
right up to me and said, "We could tell you are
not from around here. Where are you from?" So I
told them, and they said, "We love your accent and
we are glad you are having a great time tonight."
I, in return said, "I am, thank you very much ."
And they sat back down at the table in front of
Nick.
About 15 mins later, Nick got up from the table
and headed right for me----and I didn't even know
it. I was still chatting away at my friend, until
I saw her eyes get about 10 times larger when Nick
approached me. I turned around and he leaned over
to me and whispered, "Happy Birthday!" to me. To
which I said, (didn't realize in my thickest accent
until later--when people told me), ---"That was
so sweet---thank you!". He started to say something
else to me and that's when it happened----he and
I were PUSHED INTO each other-(and trust me--I have
the embarrassing picture to prove it). I thought
my camera was falling out of my hand and I was trying
to keep my balance--and it went off--- right in
Nick's FACE!! I was soooo embarrassed. The crowd
just kept pushing Nick forward and left me behind.
Well, that was when I made a final statement to
who ever could hear it---and at that point---I didn't
care WHO heard it. You see, I'm all of about 5'3
and 105lbs (if the wind is not blowin) and the whole
night, rude people just kept pushing me around.
So I had had enough---so I turned around and said
out loud---again in a thick southern accent----just
before Nick had exited the room----"If another person
pushed me----I am not a happy camper -----I WILL
push back!" Well, Nick burst out laughing along
with everyone else right when he finished exiting
the room. I just sat down in one of the chair and
said "There goes my golden chance to officially
meet Nick Rhodes!" This time, the bartender laughed
out loud and handed me a glass of water. I just
have the worst luck in the world. Maybe one day
I will officially meet him. I wonder if he will
remember me . I guess he would say, "There's that
funny sounding Southern girl, who blinded me with
her camera!" Well, at least I can say I made him
laugh and put a smile on his face that I hope was
lasting the rest of the night.
So here are my final words for that night:
TO DURAN DURAN: "THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR A MEMORABLE
NIGHT OF WONDERFUL MUSIC AND AFEW KINDRED HEARTS
WHO LOVE DURAN DURAN UNTIL THE END AND THEN SOME---AND
TO NICK RHODES---I AM TRULY SORRY I WAS PUSHED INTO
YOU---I'M HOPING THAT ONE DAY YOU AND I WILL MEET
OFFICIALLY AND I CAN SAY I'M SORRY PERSONALLY! AND
NICK........THANKS SO MUCH FOR THE HAPPY BIRTHDAY
WISH-----YOU PUT A SMILE ON MY HEART AND SOUL THAT
WILL LAST A LIFETIME AND THEN SOME----UNTIL NEXT
TIME NICK----I'M STILL PRAYING I WILL OFFICIALLY
MEET YOU..................."
Thanks for reading about my encounter.
Hugs,
~Derry Sherry~
