I went to the
Pittsburgh show on Sunday August 13th. I
have waited 18 years to see these guys in
concert. The first real rock recording I
ever owned was the 45 for Union of the
Snake when I was seven. I remember getting
the teenie bopper 'zines and having their
pictures wallpapered all over my walls.
But it was always Nick that stole my
heart.
After Sunday's show, there was
a group waiting outside of the bus. But it was announced
that they were not going to do any autographs. But
I was at the drivers window when Simon got on, and
then the bus drove off into the night. But after
driving through downtown Pittsburgh, we seen their
bus at the Doubletree Hotel. But it was after hours
and the bar was closed. I figured that my fate was
sealed, and I would never get to meet Nick.
I am telling you all of this,
because it was fate that I meet him. You would think
that after all this, I would have given up. But
it was pure coincidence that I met him. And I fully
believe in fate.
I was leaving work Monday, I
had caught the wrong bus, but I knew it would still
go into town, where I had to go to night classes.
I work at the Carnegie Science Center, and part
of our museum ring is the Andy Warhol Museum, and
it is closed on Mondays. But the wrong bus I had
caught went by the Warhol. I noticed a guy in the
store taking inventory, and thought this to be odd
that anyone was there on a Monday.
Well, as the bus rounded the
corner, there was a familiar guy standing there
waiting to cross the street. My heart caught in
my throat, a voice screamed in my head, GET OFF
THE BUS!!!!!! I jumped up, I was shaking, I hurriedly
told the driver I had to get off NOW! He let me
off a block away.
I wasn't about to be detered
now. My eyes had seen the golden prize. I ran back
to the corner, but he was gone. Franticly, I ran
to the parking lot, no one was there. But across
from the Warhol is a dive resturant/bar called the
Rosa Villa, I thought to myself, would they have
gone in there? No, it was a dive establishment.
But I crept over, opening the door, HE was there.
He looked over at me, and I chocked, I backed out
the door to devise a plan, or atleast to compose
something to say.
I am very starstruck. And I
didn't want to come across as an idiot. But then
he came out of the bar, I went right up to him,
and said,"Hi, I was at the show last night and..."
He interupted and asked what I had thought about
it.I told him that I had very much enjoyed it. But
I didn't want to say that I had to wait 18 years
to see them in concert. But HE was very nice and
dignified. I got his and Simon's autograph.
I was shaking and WOW! is all
I can say about the whole thing. Sorry this is so
long winded, but, I have always loved him and Duran
Duran. And to get to meet him face to face and to
speak with him.
WOW! Just simply, WOW
