NOT satisfied with their own remarkable
staying power, the 1980s pop heroes Duran Duran are to launch a
management company to nurture the next generation of musicians.
The group, whose hits include Wild Boys and Rio, want to help budding
pop stars avoid the pitfalls they faced when they started out in
the music business.
Nick Rhodes, the group's keyboard player, is masterminding the venture
along with Warren Cuccurullo, who joined the band as guitarist in
1986. The pair plan to float their company when the stock market
picks up.
"Duran Duran decided to set up the company so that young groups
wouldn't have to go through what they did," says Tony Craze, of
Christows stockbrokers, which is attracting investors to the project.
"It is often very difficult for young bands who don't know the ropes.
It would help them to have Nick and Warren to give them the benefit
of their experience." He adds: "There are a number of promising
young acts lined up for them to manage."
Duran Duran were performing in the Dominican Republic last week
and were unavailable for comment.
