Superbowl isn't a hit with Duran Duran girl

Eighties power pop combo Duran Duran will tomorrow receive one of America's highest accolades: performing at half-time at Superbowl XXXVIII.

But bassist Nick Rhodes's New York-born girlfriend, Meredith Ostrom (right), is giving the event, held this year in Houston, a wide berth. "My work and auditions are much more important to me than following Nick wherever he goes," she explains. "I think it would be a bit pathetic if all I did was slope around after the band; I have my own career to sort out."

That career is itself at a delicate stage. "I've been spending a lot of time in New York recently and I am being considered for the lead in a play there," Ostrom adds. "But when I turned up to the audition the director was a bit late and as he walked in, he slammed his head on some stray scenery. There was blood everywhere and he needed 17 stitches. At least I made an impression.''
