BOP reader Tatjana Rhodes knows a thing or two about pop. Not only
is she a huge *N sync fan, but this 15-year-old is also the daughter
of Duran Duran keyboardist Nick Rhodes.
I got to listen to Celebrity a few weeks before it came out.
While I had heard about a new, more mature *N sync sound, I wasn't
convinced until I actually heard the album. The vibes on Celebrity
change from track to track with a vast range of sounds from techno-pop
to R&B to soul, all with *N sync's trademark hamonies on top.
Celebrity differs from No Strings Attached in that
the music is more urban and the lyrics more heartfelt. The title
track, "Celebrity," which is thier cynical take on fame, should
definitely be a good single because it's a well-written song with
a good groove. It's a more developed version of "It Makes Me Ill."
Another potential hit is "Gone," a great ballad with beautiful harmonies.
It's a perfect cross between "This I Promise You" and "I Drive Myself
Crazy." "The Two Of Us" is an up-tempo song with a Beatles feel
to it and "Selfish" is a lovely ballad-written by Brian McKnight-that
is pure R&B.
Celebrity will undoubtedly be another phenominal success
for *N sync. The album has a little something for everyone-each
song has soul and it's own message. *N sync is like a modern version
of Duran Duran (and I'm not just saying that because of my dad).
They both write perfect pop songs and are each internationally acclaimed
stars. And, of course, they both put on a great show!
