GLASPEY
RITES HELD HERE SUNDAY

| Funeral services
were held Sunday afternoon, January 25, in the Bowbells Methodist church
for W.H. Glaspey, who passed away at the Trinity hospital in Minot, January
20, following in minor operation. The Rev. George Bauer of Kenmare officiated
at the services which were in charge of the Olson funeral home in Kenmare.
Pallbearers were five of Mr. Glaspey's brothers, John, Albert, Francis,
Wallace and Richard, and a nephew, Wm. Bywater. William Howard Glaspey was born January 12, 1879 at Walnut, Iowa, the sixth child of a family of 12. He grew to manhood in Iowa and came to Burke county, North Dakota in 1900 and filed on a homestead in Carter township. In 1904 he was united in marriage to Eleanor M. Carter and to this union five children were born. In 1916 the family moved to Canada and remained there until 1934 when they returned to Burke county. As well as being a successful farmer, Mr. Glaspey in partnership with his brother Richard and later his son, Wilfred, was an auctioneer for 30 years. He was well known throughout northwestern North Dakota, eastern Montana and southern Saskatchewan. During those years he conducted over 1200 auction sales. Surviving are his widow, four sons: Wilfred H., Oxbow, Sask.; Fred J. Miles City, Mont.; Alan., Farragut, Idaho and Robert S., Bienfait, Sask.; one daughter, Ruth (Mrs. Ralph Jenkins), Baldwin Park, Calif.; seven brothers: Charles of Shenandoa, Iowa, John of Clear Lake, Iowa; Albert of North Liberty, Iowa; Richard of Lignite; Warren of Okmulgee, Okla.; Francis and Wallace of Hills, Iowa; four sisters: Mrs. May Goody, Clarinda, Iowa; Mrs. Ellen Bywater, Lignite; Mrs. Tina Baird, Los Angeles, Calif., and Mrs. Carrie Sweet, Harvard, Illinois. In addition to all members of Mr. Glaspey's immediate family, other out-of-town relatives here for the funeral included Mr. and Mrs. Wiesenburg, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Bywater and Mr. and Mrs. R.F. Glaspey, all of Lignite. |
