of Velma Glaspey Ruegsegger

for Velma Ruegsegger will begin at 10:30a.m. Wednesday at the George L.
Gay Funeral Home, with burial in the Mentzer Cemetary in Liberty Township,
rural Johnson County. Howard Edwards will officiate. Velma F. Glaspey Ruegsegger, 81, of Mitchellville, formerly of Hills, died Sunday at her daughter's home in West Des Moines. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to a General Scholarship Fund c/o Drake University Head Start. Mrs.Ruegsegger was born June 19, 1911, in Liberty Township in Johnson County, the daughter of Francis S. and Carrie May Mentzer Glaspey. She married Lorin Ruegsegger at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. She attended elementary school in Liberty Township and graduated from University High School in 1932. She later attended the University of Iowa and then received her teaching certificate from Cornell College. She was a schoolteacher. The couple farmed in the Parnell area and in 1955 moved to Williamsburg where Velma was an active member of St. Paul's Methodist Church. The couple later lived in Trenton and Kirksville, Mo. She had lived the past 15 years in Mitchellville. Survivors include two daughters, Linda McNatt of Denton, Texas, and Betty Minor of West Des Moines; a brother, Robert "Bob" Glaspey of Winter Springs, Fla.; a sister, Catherine Ross of Hobe Sound, Fla.; three grandchildren, two step-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
