L. "Timer" Glaspey, 84, died Saturday, Sept. 11, 1999 in Iowa Veterans Home,
Marshalltown, following a sudden illness. Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday,
George L. Gay Hills Chapel. Burial: Oakland Cemetary, Iowa City, with military
graveside rites. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the chapel. Survivors include two sisters, Leta Seaton and husband Max of Hills and Betty Letts and husband Omar of Iowa City; and many nieces and nephews. His parents preceded him in death. Marold L. "Timer" Glaspey was born Dec. 15, 1914, in Hills. the son of Wallace P. and Alice DeBrie Glaspey. Timer received a B.A. degree from the University of Iowa in speech and dramatic art. He was an actor, and while living in Hollywood for 23 years, appeared in many television shows and movies. When not living in California, Timer made his home in Hills. [Note: Timer appeared in episodes of the TV series, "Gunsmoke."] He was a member of Lone Tree American Legion, Screen Actors Guild, Actors Equity and American Federation of Radio & Television Artists. Two people who greatly influenced Timer's life were Lola Hughes at Iowa City High School and Clay Harshbarger at the University of Iowa. Timer served for four years in the U.S. Coast Guard in the Atlantic and Pacific as a quartermaster during World War II, being stationed a portion of that time at Ellis Island. Memorials may be given to Iowa City High School or Hills First Responders. Military graveside rites to be provided by Lone Tree American Legion Post No. 457. |
