Glaspey Services Held

| Services for
Charles Hull Glaspey were held at 2 p.m. Monday at Harding Funeral Home
with the Rev. Bruce Gillis officiating. Eugene Hagglund was in charge of
music. Military honors were extended by Spanish American War Veterans and Veterans of Foreign Wars. In the group of Spanish American War Veterans were john Behm, L.L. Hunter, Albin Tornquist, S.E. Baker, Loy Harris, and George W. Lewis. In the V.F.W. group were Bernard Howard, Wayne Gardner, Woodrow Boyles, Bruce E. Holdridge, Clark Underwood, Harry Zickefoose and Marion Kelso. Pallbearers were Paul Lyden, Hugh Bell, Dell Blackburn, George Keele, Dillon Webster and Everett Kearns. On the flower committee were Mrs. Ada Varley, Mrs. Neva Forney and Mrs. Myrtle Remander. Interment was in Rose Hill Cemetary. Out-of-town relatives and friends attending the service were Francis Glaspey of Riverside, Ia., Mr. and Mrs. Warren Glaspey of Okmulgee, Okla., Wallace Glaspey of Hills, Ia., Mrs. Ralph Riedy of Harvard, Ill., Mrs. Lorin Ruegsegger of Williamsburg, Ia., Mrs. Leland Butterbaugh and son, Richard, of Tiffin, Ia., Mr. and Mrs. Will Looper of Villisca, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Brummett, Mr. and Mrs. John R. Brummett of Clarinda, Mr. and Mrs. H.R. Fallers of Essex, L.P. Gutschenritter of Imogene, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Dennis of Farragut and Car Brummett of Hawleyville. CHARLES HULL GLASPEY Charles Hull Glaspey was born September 14, 1870 on a farm northeast of Essex. He was educated in the rural district school and moved with his family to Atlantic, Ia., then to Iowa City. At the time of the outbreak of the Spanish-American War he was streetcar motorman in Philadelphia, Pa. He joined the U.S. Volunteers and was a corporal in Company C, 47th Regiment. He was married January 29, 1902 to Barbara E. Fallers. They had one son, Vernon, who has always made his home with his parents. Mr. Glaspey's main occupation was farming and he has farmed near Shenandoah, Lamoni, Syracuse, Neb., High River, Alberta, Canada and Red Bluff, Cal. He returned from California in 1944 and had lived in Shenandoah since. He was a member of the Spanish American War Veterans. He was baptized in the Presbyterian Church. He was a member of a family of 12 children - 8 boys and 4 girls. Eight survive. His five surviving brothers are John of Osage, Ia., Bert of Florida, Francis of Riverside, Ia., Warren of Oklahoma and Wallace of Hills, Ia. His three surviving sisters are Ellen in North Dakota, Tina in California and Carrie in Harvard, Ill. |
