CHARLES ROSS HAD LIVED LIFE IN THIS COUNTY
Was Woman of Splendid Christian Character - Mother of Large Family |
| In the death
of Mrs. Charles Ross, which occurred at her house near Reasnor, on the fifth
of June, the community lost one of its best and most useful women. The following obituary, written by one who knew her well, expresses the sentiment of the entire community. Almeada L. Smith was born October 20th, 1857, near Newton, and died at her home near Reasnor, June 5th, 1915, at the age of fifty-seven years, seven months and fifteen days. Her girlhood days were spent near Newton and at the age of nineteen she was united in marriage to Charles F. Ross. They moved to a farm three and one half miles southeast of Reasnor where they have since resided. She was the mother of twelve children, four of whom died in infancy, and one, Charles Owen, departed this life in 1901, at the age of ten years. Those who survive her are W.A., of Altoona, Frank B. and Zell S., of Reasnor, Ruth, Harry S. Edith and Robert, who are at home with their father. These with one brother, Albert Smith of Ouray, Colo., and two sisters, Mrs. Rilla Dils and Mrs. Emma Stauffer of Mountainair, New Mex. Besides seven grandchildren, are left to mourn for their dear loved ones. She was converted in early life, and always lived a faithful, christian, true to her Savior. Her life was an example to all who came in contact with her to be honest, never faltering workers, for their Master, no matter how hard the task. The last few years of her life were days of intense suffering at times, yet she was anxious to stay with her family until they should be able to get along with out a mother's care. She will be sorely missed in the home, and by all who knew her, and a song comes to mind that was one of her favorites. "Shall we Meet Beyond the River?" The funeral was held Monday, June 7th, at Mt. Zion church, Rev. Fitzsimmons spoke from a text chosen by the deceased. Rev. 14:13: "And I heard a voice from Heaven, saying unto me, Write, "Blessed are the dead, which die in the Lord from henceforth, yes saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labors." After the funeral service the body of the dear wife and mother was laid to rest in the cemetary near by. |
