According to 1930 Census (Whitinsville, Worcester, MA): Harry and
the family lived at 14 Carriage St. in Whitinsville in a rented home
for which they paid $17/month. Harry was an unemployed machinist (as
of 1 Apr 1930) for a cotton mash (?) shop, and Annie was an unemployed
winder for a woolen mill. Both were wage or salary workers. The family
did not own a radio set. Harry immigrated in 1922 and was naturalized,
as were the kids, except for John W., who was born in Mass. (all others
born in England). Annie and the kids, except for John, immigrated
in 1923; Annie was noted as an alien. At the time of this census,
Harry was 39, Annie 36 (they married when 22 and 19 respectively),
Herbert C. was 15, Lillian was 14, George L. was 9, and John W. was
6. All the kids were in school, and all except George and John could
read and write.
Before his death in July of 1996, Herbie was writing the story of
his life.
