Notes for JUHA EMANUEL KOSKI: Also known as "John". He wrote a statement,
of which a non-notarized and unsigned copy is maintained in the family:
"John Emanuel Koski, of lawful age, being first duly sworn, upon his
oath deposes and says: 'I am the son of John Simeson, also known as
John Simonson, also sometimes known as John Simoson, and the discrepancy
in our names is accounted for by the fact that I have retained the
old Polish family name. My father died in the City of Casper and State
of Wyoming on or about the 31st day of December, 1920, leaving no
last will and testament; neither did he leave a wife him surviving,
and his only children were myself, Edith Parkko fo Hanna, Wyoming,
Alma Simonson Ulvila, of Longmont, Colorado, and Impie Huhta, of Rock
Springs, Wyoming.' Further depondent sayeth not." It was to be notarized
in 1924. His original, Finnish name is Juha Emanuel. When he arrived
in the US, he Anglicized it to John Emanuel.

According to his son in a source note for his dissertation, Sylvester
became a professional swimming teacher after the 1920 Olympics and
performed magic tricks. Sylvester changed his birth year to 1895 when
he joined the US Army during World War I.
